Dubai International Airport has successfully unveiled an AI-powered immigration corridor – the first of its kind in the world. Located at Terminal 3 of the airport, the corridor is designed to allow passengers to clear passport control in only 14 seconds.
Introduced at Terminal 3, as part of Dubai’s “Travel Without Borders” initiative, the system is currently available only to First and Business Class travellers. The airport announced that plans are in place for wider use for other passengers in the future.
Using pre-registered biometric data, travellers will be able to simply walk through a designated corridor at the terminal without presenting a passport or boarding pass. AI systems will then verify the passenger’s identity using facial recognition technology and cross-checking of details on visa applications and check-in databases.
The airport announced that the system will be able to process up to ten people at once – reducing waiting times at arrival points significantly. Authorities were keen to highlight that the corridor is designed to be secure with the AI system able to redirect travellers for manual in-person immigration checks if needed.
Dubai’s AI corridor is the first of its kind in the world, although other international airports have introduced e-gates and digital checks for confirming passenger identity. Experts suggest that DXB’s new system could redefine how border control operates at airports.
The AI corridor is part of a strategy designed to position Dubai as a global hub for seamless travel, as part of government plans to use artificial intelligence across its infrastructure – associating with the UAE’s National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031.
Dubai International Airport is currently one of the busiest airport hubs in the world with data showing that the airport processed over 86 million passengers in 2023. With airport traffic continually rising along with the popularity of Dubai for real estate investors, professionals, and families, the Emirate is investing in smart technology to keep its competitive edge.
